In The Swim – for the best cause of all

If you’re a regular user of our Oasis pool and have been wondering about that closed-off lane, then wonder no more!

We’ve cordoned it off so that member Terry Willis can use it to train for the ultimate swimming goal – he’s going to attempt to cross the English Channel.

Terry tells us that more people have climbed Mount Everest than ploughed their way across the 21 miles that separate the UK from the continent and no wonder; with ships, jellyfish and freezing water to conquer before they claim the prize.

But he’s got every incentive to be the 2005th person to complete this awesome feat – because he’s doing it for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.

And the reason he’s chosen this charity is simple…

“Last year I had a Paragliding accident and fell 40 foot to the ground,” says Terry. “I broke two vertebrae in my back and had my foot in plaster for several weeks.”

Fortunately he’s made a full recovery and he knows the reason why. “Not only was I very, very lucky but my fate was very much secured by the professionalism and expertise of the ambulance and police, and also the people I have chosen to support, The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance service,” he says.

“I enjoy paragliding, hill walking and sea swimming and it is of great comfort to know that if - and in my case when - I had difficulty, these brave men and women were there when most needed them and now I want to help them.”

Bunn Leisure is delighted to support Terry in his training for this epic swim. All we ask is that you give him a wave when you’re swimming by and consider sponsoring him via his Just Giving Page which you will find <here>.
