Chichester Cycle Challenge Winners

The Chichester Cycle Challenge is a fun, free competition to help encourage local organisations & their departments to experience the first-hand joys and benefits of riding a bike.

Between Monday 23rd June to Sunday 13th July, workmates & organisations across Chichester competed to see which could get the biggest percentage of staff riding a bike -65 organisations took part & 652 participants got involved in the challenge.

Overall the challengers clocked up an impressive 38,806 miles, saved 12.6 tonnes of CO2, burning off more than 1 million calories over the 3 week Challenge. That's....

  • Cycling around the equator 1.5 times.
  • Burning off the equivalent of 11,336 glasses of wine.
  • 96 people also took to their bikes for the first time in more than a year.

Amy Absolon & Paul Davies, representing Bunn Leisure, we're overcome with joy at today's ceremony (23/07/14), where they were presented with a number of awards -

  • 1st Place (7 to 19 staff category)- Bunn Leisure Accounts for Cycling 411miles and saving 134kg of CO2 - PRIZE:  theatre tickets to the newly refurbished Chichester Festival theatre
  • Winner 2014 Honourable Mention - Bunn Leisure Accounts for encouraging 100% of the department to cycle.
  • 3rd Place - Bunn Leisure Organisation in cycling a total of 647 miles & saving 211kg of CO2

Additional Info & fun stuff -

  • Overall winner from Bunn Leisure - Allison, Head of Holidays at West Sands & White Horse Parks , clocking up an impressive 82 miles "This was such a great challenge, keeping fit, fun & a chance to explore our stunning surroundings such as the Pagham Nature Reserve, which I pass en-route to work.'
  • 2nd Place - Carla in the accounts department with a whopping 80 mile in only 4 trips, Carla also recently partook in the London Marathon. When asked would she do the London Marathon again "I think I'm going to take a little break from running, for a while".
  • Bunn Leisure employs over 350 seasonal and full time staff, most of which live locally & a high percentage of which cycle to work. Those who live on the 300 acre park, during the season, also utilise their bikes to commute around the park.
  • The Head of Accounts actually purchased a bike to participate in the challenge.
  • 1 member of the team, who wishes to remain nameless, was mortified to find that upon her arrival to the office, early, that she had left her office keys at home… she was stuck outside the office in her bright pink High Vis jacket & cycling trouser for nearly 20 mins.
